Summary

A number of Palaeolithic implements were found in 1906 and 1910; possibly discovered in gravel pits centred on SP767593. The assemblage includes eight Palaeolithic handaxes, 1 retouched flake and 1 flake held by Northampton Museum.

Full Description

{1} A number of Palaeolithic implements were found in 1906 and 1910; possibly discovered in gravel pits centred on SP767593. They include heavily rolled mid to late Acheulean hand axes and waste flakes. Between 1906 and 1910 a number of Palaeolithic flint implements were found; possibly from the gravel pits situated at SP767593. The finds included a mid to late Acheulean hand-axe, a flint scraper, five flint tools and three hand-axes. Found 1904-13 except one handaxe (Northampton Museum D139/1970-4) which was found in 1922.

{4} List of unlocated finds from old Hardingstone parish. Probably the same as P114.

{7} Hardingstone gravel pits yielded 8 hand-axes, 1 flake and another re-touched flake, between 1906-1910. Noted by Popsnansky as a 'heavily rolled series'.

{10} Northampton Museum has various Acheulian implements labelled as from Hardingstone.
