Full Description

{1} Ridge and furrow, usually indicating medieval ploughing, is oftern associated with moats. It normally lies around the limits of the site showing where contemporary arable land lay. On rare occasions it can be recognised as passing under the moat, so indicating that it is later and has been constructed over former arable land. This has been proved by excavation, as at a moat at Clipston.
