Full Description

{1} Find of a Saxon urn, unlocated findspot; sketch.

{3} Cremation burial at SP965765. A sketch of the urn in ref {5} is the only source.

{6} Not mentioned in Cole's MS History of Ecton (Poss Northampton Ref Lib). Sketch from Cole's History of Woodford {5} is without mention in the text and is pictured on p.14 following a romantic account of 3 tumuli (SP 97 NE 11) which are proably BA: the drawing appears to have been inserted for decorative purposes only and the subject may have come from anywhere (including Cole's imagination) however the urn certainly appears Saxon and carries what is presumably line and stamped ornament, it is not unlike an urn found in this county at Welton (SP 570664) pictured in "Remains of Pagan Saxondom" 1855. XXVIII (J Y Akerman). An AS burial at Woodford is not noted in Northampton museum records, and T S George ("Arch Survey of Northampton 1904") only quotes Cole.
