Full Description

{1} 10 garden areas. Bleached hornbeam screen, trellis and balustrading. By John Fowler of Colefax and Fowler for Lady Ward. Pool garden 1976-8 by Lanning Roper for Lady Ward. Inspiration was Hidcote.
By compartmentation using walls, hedges, pleached hornbeams and limes, a great deal is cleverly fitted into a relatively small spave, providing for a great variety of features and uses.

{2} Friars Well (Dower House) let on lease from 1916-1854 had become neglected. 1955 rejuvenation of gardens - wild trees and shrubs grubbed up, walls rebuilt, terraces made, existing paths re-surfaced. Old dovecote pulled down stood on site of the swimming pool.
