Full Description
{1} Finds in Market Harborough Museum.
{2} Finds of 1952 made during construction of Council houses. Stonework and finds were concentrated in the front garden of 34 Lubenham Road. Finder: Miss Cooke.
{3} A Romano-British flagon was found in the summer of 1952. Finds now in Market Harborough Museum.
{4} When new houses were built opposite the church in the 1950s a very large amount of Roman pottery, including samian and an almost complete C3rd flagon was found (at SP69318601). A considerable amount of medieval pottery, bones and an iron arrowhead were found on a building site north-west of the church in 1952.
{5} Many fragments of R.B. and early Md. pottery found on new building site at Marston Trussell. Also iron arrow-
head, possibly Md.
{6} [SP 6931 8601] Ro. pottery found on site of council houses opposite church. For more information see Miss Cooke at nearby house.
{7} The major part of a Ro. flagon, c. 2-300 A.D., found at Marston Trussell, in the summer of 1952, under the new houses opposite the church. Acc. No. 370. Displayed.
{8} Many fragments of R.B. and early Md. pottery found on a new building site at Marston Trussell were reported to Northampton Museum, in 1952, but were not given to the Museum.
{9} [SP 6927 8597] In 1952, in building work on two pairs of 6 Council houses, a great deal of soil was moved to level the area.
Miss Cooke found many hundreds of potsherds, both Md. and Roman, an iron arrowhead, bones, two fragments of quern base-stones and noted many other stones in an area mainly concentrated in what is now the front garden of 34, Lubenham Road, Marston Trussell. Findspot pointed out on ground by Miss Cooke. The remaining potsherds, c. 500 in number, arrowhead and fragments of quern in Miss Cooke's possession have now been given to Market Harborough Museum through this investigator.
{10} The findspot falls in a garden. A number of large stones found in digging the garden are now used to line paths and employed in rockeries. None are worked. At the rear of the houses lining the north side of the road are the remains of long crofts to houses now replaced by the modern buildings. The Md. finds may probably be associated with these slight indications of depopulation. The Roman finds, which included figured Samian ware, are most probably associable with the probable Roman building underlying the church and rectory to the south - (SP 68 NE 11).
{11} Two pot sherds said to be of Iron Age date were recovered in the early 1950s by the Market Harborough Archaeological Society. The finds are held in Market Harborough Museum.
