Full Description

{1}Meeting Lane. Two conjoining evaluation trenches were excavated. The heavily robbed remains of a stone wall in a foundation trench c.3m wide running parallel to Richmond Road at a distance of 6m to the north-east. Possibility of ditch-layers fell away towards this street. Pottery from the site was generally of the mid-1st to 2nd centuries. Further work is required to establish if the features formed part of either the Roman or Saxon defences.
