{1} Bill for bricks for building garden walls.

{2} Workmen paid for work in garden.

{3} Present gardens date from 1860's and were designed by architect W M Teulon.

{4} Visited in August 1742; "….gardens are in mote which was stopped up in front of house by Duke who also improved beautiful park… in a low part of which the house stands.

{5} Refers to private pleasure grounds next to house.

{7} Record of plantings in 1567/68, 1589, 1602/63, 1624, 1798 and 1800.
