Full Description

{1} Roman coins were found 'in the same area' between 1693 and 1747. No other details are known.

{2} Roman coins were found whilst laying the foundations for Rev. Watkins' house. W.Watkins was the vicar from 1693 to 1747. The datestone on the house reads WW1612, a spurious date.

{4} William Watkin was vicar here from 1693-1747 and the house that was the vicarage stands at SP 6297 7181 and bears a datestone inscribed WW 1612. Mr Latimore, headmaster of the village school and parish councillor believed the stone to tbe spurious. The house does appear to be E17th c in origin but the '6' in 1612 is not of that period. It would seem Watkin arrived at this by subtracting a century from his rebuilding date. The location of the finds was not ascertained.
