Full Description

{1} Settlement (significant find scatter). Large dark area with burnt stone, etc but very few sherds. Stone building (rubble 30m diam) and mound at the NGR. To the west of the stone, the pond marked on the OS is part of a longer hollow - part of an enclosure ditch or hollow way? Previous Northampton Museum records.

{3} A Roman building of substantial size is clearly visible under the plough. Much Roman pottery has been gathered.

{4} Roman settlement. Large quantities of stone, pottery (including samian), brick and tile, and wall plaster cover an area at least 50m across. Part of a quern has been found further south, and small amounts of pottery are spread over a wider area. Air photographs (held by Monk's Wood Research Station, Huntingdon) show two incomplete conjoined, rectangular enclosures, orientated north-south as well as a probable hut circle.

{5} Soilmarks recorded in 1982 include at SP997914 a stone area: Roman building and dark soil.

{7} [SP 99729146]. A Roman building of substantial size is clearly visible under plough. Much Roman pottery.

{8} Site as indicated by authority {7} confirmed. Perambulation revealed a very heavy surface scatter of pottery (inc. Samian), Ro. brick, roofing tile and plaster. Londesborough hopes to put a trial trench across the building later in the year.

{9} Topographically the situation is a high open aspect about 75.0m above sea level.

{10} Tottenhoe Lodge. Five bronze coins of 2nd to 4th century date, fifteen bronze and seven lead objects found 1980-1. The bronze items include a 1st century, one piece brooch, a plate brooch in the form of a horse and a pair of tweezers.

Description from record 2900/0/0:

{2} Fieldwalking c.1962 recovered a very heavy surface scatter of pottery (including samian), brick, roofing tile and plaster.
