Monument record 1785/0/1 - Possible Roman well

A stone-lined well was found during the draining of a pond in 1893. A 'bottle' was found in the fill.

{1} An ancient well, probably Roman, found in the centre of an old pond drained in 1893, in the valley near where the coffin was found (HER no 1783/1). It was about 12" deep and stone-lined and contained a bottle which was exhibited to the meeting.

{4} The top of the well is below normal water level and it visible only on rare occasions in very dry weather.
