Monument record 1816/0/3 - Iron Age Enclosures & Ditches

{1} Trial excavation in August 1990 confirmed the presence of a series of Iron Age enclosures recorded during earlier geophysical survey.

{2} Ditches and enclosures were observed surrounding the double-ditched enclosure and possibly contemporary. These possibly form a large irregularly-shaped enclosure with sub-divisions.

{4} The cropmarks of ditches surrounding the main enclosure could represent a large irregular enclosure with sub-divisions, and additional ditches to the south suggest the presence of other enclosures. Magnetometer survey identified elemets of the enclosures, but anomalies were poorly defined making an overall interpretation impossible.
Trial trenching established that the ditch forming the outer boundary of the eastern annexe to the double-ditched enclosure was 1.2m wide, but no finds were present.
