Summary

During ironstone mining between Stanion and Brigstock a number of ancients finds were made. These included a quern found in August 1951. Fragments of pottery and 2 fossilised tusks in June 1952. Further finds of Roman and Anglo Saxon pottery in 1953. 3rd century Romano-British pottery and a quern in 1954.

Full Description

{1} Finds between 1951 and 1954 of Romano-British and Saxon pot sherds, two querns and "fossilised tusks".All items were presented to the Northants Architectural Society.

{2} Romano-British settlement north-east of Stanion village. Two querns and a considerable amount of Roman pottery were found between 1951 and 1954.

{6} The area (centred SP 92058734) shown on the 6" was being worked by (a) Stewart & Lloyds between 1951 and 1954.

{7} Presumably the above items came from this area but the actual finders could not be traced
