Full Description

{1} The parkland may be much more extensive than mapped from 1950s OS base.

{7} The map covers most of area of parkland but no features other than a single tree placed fairly centrally are shown; adjoining land called "Little Coneygree" is owned by Robert Canning.

{8} Shows the area occupied by parkland with numerous trees and also in separate enclosure to its north-east labelled "Playing Field"; building structure of Everdon Hall is not clearly shown on map; approach from west appears to be lined by avenue of trees; possible feature of pond shown on east side of parkland area, but not clear.

{9} "….the village is about five miles from Daventry and is situated in a vale overlooked to the north, west and south by a range of hills… Great and Little Everdon were enclosed by an Act of Parliament in 1764 and contain about 1800 acres… several brooks run through this lordship and near to the entrance of the village from Weedon over what is called The Fawsley Water is a small stone bridge of two arches… from the character of the mouldings the bridge must be of considerable antiquity… Little Everdon Manor House had degenerated into a common farmhouse when it was purchased in 1809 by Gabriel Doveton Esq. a general in the East India Service and Member of Parliament for Lancaster… he converted it into a genteel residence and died May 1824 having by will devised his estate here to his brother Sir John Doveton K.C.B. a general in East India Service…."

{11} Basically repeats Baker's text re. Little Everdon Manor House………

{12} "….Everdon Hall is a substantial building of brick and is situated amid beautiful surrounding scenery; it was built by the late General Doveton and is now the residence of David Richard St Paul Esq….".

{13} Much of the park is included on the Local List.
