Full Description

{1} Possible medieval churchyard cross; base & socket & plinth are original; structure rebuilt in 1890 using original inscribed socket stone.

{3} Note on restoration of cross.

{4} Drawings, notes and measurements, notes dated 1865, drawing dated 1896.

{5} Situated at TL 0489 9053. See photographs. The socket stone, base and plinth are all original. The inscription cannot now be read.

{6} Socket stone reset on a base consisiting of two machine cut stone steps. The upper steps carries incised inscriptions in Latin which appear to be memorials. The shaft is a modern four-pillar terminating in a pyramidical point.

There is no evidence to suggest that the cross is or is not in its original location but the reconstruction will have caused considerable disturbance to the ground.

Since little of the original cross has survived and that no associated archaeological deposits are likely to remain intact the cross does not fulfil the requirments necessary for scheduling.
