Full Description

{1} Parkland not indicated as already built up, but Lings Wood is shown, as are the various ponds.

{2} Lord John Cavendish. 2nd edition 1791; house only shown, not the park.

{3} Old house, with pleasant gardens and plantations belonging to the Earl of Thomond for many generations. Part of the lordship on the north is inclosed. He hath here an handsome old house with pleasant gardens adjoining. "There is a modus" for the Earl of Thomand's inclosure by agreement and decree made in the time of the rector Dan Cawdry, AD 1625-1662.

{7} A parkland is clearly indicated in the early C19th, covering much of the land to the north-west of Great Billing village up to the Billing crossroads and westwards to the Billing Brook. The tributary stream flowing into the Billing Brook is also clearly shown, running south-westwards from a pond on the north side of the Wellingborough Road. There is no indication that Lings Wood was included within the parkland at this time.
