Find Spot record 2889/0/1 - Unstratified Finds, Possibly Bronze Age or Romano-British
Please read our guidance about the use of Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
The RCHME Inventory of Northamptonshire (volume IV) refers in a footnote to various items having been found at an unknown date near "Duddington Lock", quoting a source consulted at Northampton Central Library. There seem to be no other references to such a find from Duddington, Northamptonshire. However, a well-known Bronze Age hoard was discovered circa 1778 at Duddingston Loch, Midlothian, Scotland. The Northampton suggests the finds are Romano-British in date, but there is a reasonable chance that the hoard referred to is the Scottish one, and that the Northamptonshire attribution is erroneous.

Full Description
{1} Unlocated finds from quarrying. "A Roman bell was found with spearheads, swords and a celt. Most of the finds were fused and were sticking together when taken out of a marl pit near the west end of Duddington Lock, next to Preston Field. They were 'under water'." The name at the bottom is unclear, possibly "Capt.Grosadil". Suggested ngr at SK987008.
{2} Undated bell, spearheads, swords and a 'celt' are said to have been discovered near the west of Duddington Lock sometime, perhaps at SK987008
