Full Description

{1} After change of ownership in 1937, the old forecourt was redeveloped as an ornamental parterre with stone balustrade, 4 lead Classical statues on pediments partly enclosed by blocks of clipped yew, and more cones and balls of green and golden yew for further decoration. Geoffrey Jellicoe designed a wide flight of stone stairs to lead down from this higher level to what is now known as the Lower Lawn, and a wide flagged path leads centrally fromt eh ohouse to these stairs, from which it is separated by a pair of low, wrought-iron gates.

{6} A formal garden occupies the former entrance forecourt.
To the south of the Hall, laid out in 1937 on the former forecourt to a design by Geoffrey Jellicoe (d 1996), is a quartered parterre garden with symmetrically arranged clipped green and golden yews, and statuary. A stone balustrade with central gate bounds the south side of the garden, approached from the Hall by a straight, flagged path. A flight of stone steps leads down to the Lower Lawn. From here there are extensive vistas, firstly along the main axial line and over the lake to the spire of Brixworth church on a ridge-top 5km to the south-east, and secondly along the Lime Avenue planted in 1982, on a more easterly line.
