Full Description

{2} Benjamin Kidney Esq enclosed grassland, and a second edition of 1791 shows B Kidney, deceased.

{3} Enclosed/deserted probably 1450-1700. c 1500 eight houses in Irchester and Knusten were destroyed and 131/2 virgatres and 72 acres were enclosed and converted to pasture by W.Coope, A.Catesby and E.Isham. One manor was acquired in 1542 by Page family who occupied the manor-house in 1674 and may have removed other houses to their present site.

{4} Illustration of Knuston circa 1769 (NRO map 832) shows efforts for laying out park. Symetrically arranged woods, an approach drive - early 18th century. John Page sold to Harvey Sparke who bought much smaller property effected enclosure act 1769. In 1775 Sparkes sold to Benjamin Kidney who mortgaged the estate 1780 and 1786. He sold it in 1791 to John Gulstan. By 1780 Ben Kidney had effected considerable improvements, he spent £10,000 on land and buildings.

{8} By 1769 the hall had acquired a small formal park around it. By 1791 all but one of the buildings south of the existing road had been demolished and the land emparked.
