Full Description

{1} (SP 854638) To the east of Earls Barton church and village there was a spring known as the Fish-pond spring which at one time had some large fish ponds below. Supporting evidence as to the existence of these ponds is given in the use of the name Fish-pond as a prefix to a spinney, field and orchard.

{3} North of Broad Street there were apparently once a number of fishponds which were later turned into watercress beds. These have now been destroyed.

{4} The dam of the northernmost fishpond still survives [HER Mon 3738/0/3].

{5} Fishpond Close.

{7} All recognisable traces of the fish ponds and the watercress beds that superseded or were adapted from them have disappeared.
