Full Description
{1} Fieldwalking in April 1969 to check a possible Roman site, reported verbally as producing Roman coins over a period of years to the south-east of The Elms. Several areas of stone scatters with buff sandstone roofing and a few Romano-British coarse-ware sherds were located at the west end of the field. The complete base of a Castor-ware cup was picked up at the east end of the field where traces of an old village street were visible.
{2} Recent field walking has led to the discovery of several patches of stone associated with sandstone roofing tiles and Roman pottery.
{3} Fieldwalking identified Romano-British pot sherds, sandstone roofing tiles, stone patches, and Roman coins.
{4} SP 8639 7476: Many Romano British sherds were found in this area by Mr BF Dix while fieldwalking in April 1969. The site was confirmed by Mr JR Fox who has finds of Romano British from here. The site is under plough; no surface finds were made.
