Full Description

{1} Excavations in November 1969 & 15/4/1970 during digging of trench for electric cables revealed pits with limestone and Roman-British pot sherds. Nearby evidence of human burial (part of skeletons) were found. The excavation was undertaken by Brian Dix. Grid ref: SP88627814; detailed plan of location in Templars Road;

{3} Romano-British pottery including pieces of colour-coated ware and a tile fragment found in pits revealed during the digging of a trench for an electrical cable. Two pits had a layer of white limestone, some burnt pink, with a further layer of filling below them. Nearby a human burial was found. There were no grave goods, but part of the skeleton had been removed prior to investigation. It lay on its back on an east-west axis with the head towards the west, the limb bones apparently parallel to the body. Iron nailes were recovered from the spot, but otherwise there was no sign of a coffin.
