Full Description

{3} Fragmentary remains of the former parkland for Loddington Hall, probably including earlier earthworks. Little is known of the history or significance of this parkland. The building of Loddington Hall (which has 14th century origins), is shown on Eyre's County Map, published in 1771, but no parkland is defined. The 1814 original Ordnance Survey's surveyors drawings show the parkland with its tree avenue, other trees, and a possible small garden building to the north-west of the avenue. The stream to the north-west is also shown to have been broadened into a serpentine-like water feature, possibly enacted via the earthen dam which is recorded as forming part of Mon 3695/0/1. Recent aerial photography suggests the survival of earthwork ridge and furrow within the parkland as well as the pond (above) and a hollow way, Mon 3695/0/6. It also suggests that the fabric of the parkland has deteriorated considerably; further assessment is necessary. Monument digitisation has been carried out to show the greatest overall extent of the parkland, as shown on 1950s OS mapping (2.5 inches to 1 mile).
