Summary
Ridge and furrow earthworks to the west of the church overlay irregular depressions. They are perhaps old quarries, but due to their considerable antiquity may originally have been the sites of houses.

Full Description
{1} Settlement Remains (?) (SP 735 839), probably lie around the isolated church of Great Oxendon, 600 m. N. of the present village, on Boulder Clay 1t 140 m. above OD. The church stands near the E. end of an E.-facing spur, with extensive views all round and it is possible that the original site of Great Oxendon was in this area though the evidence for this is limited. The whole of the surrounding area is permanent pasture and is covered with extensive ridge-and-furrow. Some irreguar depressions immediately W. of the church perhaps old quarries, but as the ridge-and-furrow runds over them they are clearly of considerable antiquity and may originally have been sites of houses. Medieval pottery of 12th to 15th-century date has been noted in the churchyard.
