Summary

A Neolithic axe was found by a workman in April 1931 during work on a new building estate. It was discovered at a depth of nearly 2m. Now in Northampton Museum.

Full Description

{1} Find made on 27/04/1931; Neolithic whitish flint axe 6.75ins long x 1.75ins-1.125ins wide. Found at 6ft depth during culverting on the estate. 300-400yds north of the Kettering Road & 100yds east of the stream in Raeburn Road; area of SP767626. Such finds are few and far between and the only others recorded in Northampton came from Thrift Street, Stimpson Avenue, Adams Avene, semilong and St James' End.

{4} (SP 7657 6273) Neolithic flint celt found in 1931; now in Northampton Museum.

{5} Northampton Museum holds a large collection of axes (both flint and stone) from the county. The above find could not be specifically identified.
