Summary

Fieldwalking survey identified an area of stone as well as limestone tesserae, unworn and some possibly unfinished, along with Roman pottery. Two prehistoric arrowheads were also found.

Full Description

{1} Fieldwalking identified an area of stone & 30 Sqm area of limestone tesserae without mortar and not worn; of varying thickness and possibly unfinished. Also found were Romano-British pottery including Samian, greyware and colour-coated ware; some rouletted and Barbotine decorated;

{3}Roman Settlement (TL 035936), S. of the village, on Great Oolite Limestone at 30 m. above OD. Roman pottery, mainly of Nene Valley type but including some samian, has been found over an area of almost 3 hectares. Near the centre some 30 sq. m. has fragments of Collyweston tesserae. One leaf-shaped and one tanged arrowhead have also come from the site and waste flakes have been noted to the N.E. (inf. Mrs. J. Johnston).
