Full Description

{1} A feature believed to be a well was seen during building operations at New House, Stoke Hill. Of dry stone construction the 'well' was 18 inches wide at the top and spread to 24 inches wide at a depth of 3ft 6inches. From there downwards it appeared to 'bell' outwards. The top 6in of the well stonework, although not burnt, were covered with a soot-like deposit. The top fill of the well was dated to the 19th century but fragments of a vessel in coarse shelly ware came from immediately outside the dry-stone work.
