Part of a Roman amphora was found in the left bank of a stream. Animal bone and ash were also observed.

Full Description

{2} Roman Settlement (?) (SP 677456), in the N. of the parish, on river gravels at 105 m. above OD. The neck and parts of the handles of a large Roman amphora were discovered in the bank of a small stream, together with ashes and animal bones (OS Record Cards).

{3} At SP 67784559 the neck and upper part of the handles of a large Roman amphora was found in the left bank of the Broom. Animal bones and ashes were visible but no other pottery. The amphora fragments are now in the possession of Mr V S Ashby, 40 Brackley Rd, Towcester.

{4} Mr Ashby's widow says that her husband's records and collection have now been given away, but refuses to reveal to whom she gave them.
