Full Description

{1} Iron Age and Roman pottery was thinly scattered over a wide area in a field east of Banbury Lane (SP586478)

{2} 7/8 sherds in all; neither classification or siting is reliable. Iron Age dating is tentative; pottery is now lost; area under crop.

{3} Small scatter of sherds said to be of Iron Age and Roman types noted though some doubt concerning the identification of the pottery. Fieldname: Ridgetop Field

{4} More Ro pottery picked up in 1968, this was a very thin scatter (about 4 places) - could be drift. In conversation Mr Smith revealed that, in all, probably only "7 or 8" sherds had been found in this area and the IA dating was "tentative" only. The indicated area is under crop; not perambulated but no finds were made in the field perimeter ditches. If this was drift neither Smith nor I can suggest a parent site. The pottery has now been lost, and previous experience with the finder would suggest that neither siting nor classification is reliable.
