Full Description
{1} Site clearance and footings indicated presence of considerable imported dumping / made-up ground particularly in south of plot behind no. 53 where 1.5m of made-up ground present. Dump of post-med/modern date but included 1 sherd of med pot (retained by owner) - residual/imported. West and east ends of the site appeared to have been occupied by post med / modern buildings.
An absence of any firm evidence of med activity may result from either the hillside being unattractive for occupation until the post med / modern era, or the destruction of med levels by post med / modern activity.
{2}Imported levelling deposits up to 1.5m deep were observed on a hillside location during redevelopment and suggest the absence or total destruction of medieval activity within this property situated at the southern fringe of the town.
