Full Description

{1} A building consisting of walls 6-10. The north wall (6) was c.11.5m long and 0.7m wide and was built of large cobbles and limestone fragments. The wall was curved in plan. The east end was extended by wall/ foundation (8), 1.25m long, consisting of small cobbles and limestone fragments. Wall (9), 2.3m x 0.5m, defined the south side of the building. This gives internal and external widths of 2.8m and 4m respectively. No dating evidence was recovered but examination of the adjacent alluvial sequence would suggest a later medieval date. Much of the limestone which occurs in the topsoil of the field is likely to derive from the building, suggesting that it was allowed to become ruinous. The function of the building could not be determined although it does resemble the malting-house at West Cotton.

{2}Masonry building, was divided into at least two rooms. No dating evidence was recovered from the building. Medieval building? Malting house?
