Full Description

{1} Dated 1875. 2-storey brick buildings with slate roofs. Also open-air animal pens of cast iron. Covered auction rings are of fairly recent construction.

{2} Number of photographs taken of auction rings, auctioneers hut, buyers stands at Northampton Cattlemarket shortly after cease of trading and prior to demolition.

{4} Matching gatehouses, either side of the former main entrance, are all that now remains of Northampton's livestock market. They are of two storeys, red brick with limestone string courses and steep, slated roofs. Each has a single-storey extension to the rear, one of which has a clock in its gable. This would have been visible across most parts of the market. The remainder of the market was demolished in 1977.
