Full Description

{1} The mill comprises post medieval or modern buildings which used steam power until after World War II. There were additions of silos, driers and electric motors by the 1960s. Site used for flour milling. The current owners, Whitworths, are reputed to have good records of the property.

{3} The original building dated 'JBW 1886' is still in existence and would appear to continue in use as a mill. A number of other buildings have been erected further back on the site.

{4} Former steam mill, Victoria Mills, a red brick four storey building, 16 bays long, was built in 1886 for John Bathams Whitworth. Despite its situation by the river, the mill never used water power but started production using a steam engine to drive roller milling plant. Steam power was replaced by electricity in 1958-59 and the tall chimney demolished. The location of the mills was ideal for the transport of the day being situated between important roads, the Northampton and Peterborough railway line and the river, the latter being used to deliver grain from London docks to the mills until 1969.
