Summary

An ornate chimney is the only surviving element of an engine house built in 1862 as part of the first sewage works in the town. Closed in 1875. Locally listed building.

Full Description

{1} Isolated brown sandstone chimney. Fluted and with a decorative cap, this is the only remains of the first sewerage disposal works for Northampton.

{2} Ornate stone chimney is the only survival from the engine house built in 1862 to improve Northampton's sewage disposal arrangements. The works closed in 1875 when a new broad irrigation system was put in place at Billing.

{4} The engine house accommodated a 12-horsepower steam engine in 1862.
