Full Description
{1} Post medieval mill building and leat.
{2} 1403 In dividing the property of William Freeman with his son, Henry, each had 'half the mill'. Later in the year, William died and Henry then held the whole of the mill.
c1570 Gibbons, steward for Thornton's estate reported 'he has closed all the new dyke from the mill to Newnham Cross'.
1764-5 Occupier of the mill was Henry Hickman.
1847-1906 Haynes family, millers at Newnham.
1928 By this time milling had ceased and the mill-house was occupied by a smallholder.
1939 Billeting officer notes the mill was 'somewhat dilapidated'.
1965 By this time the mill had been converted to a dwelling with integral garage.
The house is two-storey plus attic stone building with gabed roof with tiles. Attic window in west gable blocked with matching stone coinciding with courses on either side. Large double doors inserted in first storey at east end of the north front of the building. Adjoining the west gable is a single storey plus attic building, also of stone with slated gable roof. Stable door inserted into the north front.
