Full Description

{1}Ironworks operated between 1852 & 1876; part of the site was later occupied by the generating station of The County of Northampton Electric Power & Traction Company Ltd;

{3} Thomas Butlin began to set up a furnace, known as East End Iron Works, in 1852. It stood on the site now occupied by the Urban District Council and East Midlands Electricity Board in Cannon Street. The ore which fed the furnaces was mined in the local vicinity (ie Finedon Road, Gold Street and Nest Lane. Eastfield Park was formed from one of these open-cast mines). A second furnace was erected in 1863. The works closed in 1876.
