Full Description

{1} Rectangular enclosure 5m wide with one side formed by stream located to south of stone concentrations; the latter could be the remains of a robbed building. The survey of 1739 indicates that area was closes at this time and described as Towns End Green and North Hill Lane. The originally wide road perhaps formed an area of common land or a long green. Some of the closes identified in the survey are still preserved as individual house boundaries or fields. Concentrations of late Saxon and medieval pottery were identified by fieldwalking at either side of the street.

{2} Late Saxon and medieval surface scatter and limestone rubble.
