Summary

A Royal Observer Corps monitoring post. The site was built as part of an extensive network of posts designed to confirm and report hostile aircraft and nuclear attacks on the United Kingdom. It was constructed after World War II and closed in September 1991. At the time of the Defence of Britain survey the site was found to be in a good condition. It was located underground in a small rectangular compound 50 yards east of an unnamed minor road (originally beside the road but the road was re-aligned when the bridge over the new A45 was built). In the bushes at the southern end of the Wellingborough Rugby Club car park.

Full Description

{3} ROC Monitoring Post known as Earls Barton; opened - unknown; closed Sept 1991. Sub. Britt. Visited 20/02/99 and 15/08/99. Situated at the south end of Wellingborough Rugby Club car park. It was located underground in a small rectangular compound 50 yards east of an unnamed minor road (originally beside the road but the road was re-aligned when the bridge over the new A45 was built). Described as open with all surface features intact. Hatch open on last visit; interior damp with some fixtures and fittings and unusually with pump operational.
