A trial trench excavated over an earthwork identified possible building remains. A small number of medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds were also found

Full Description

{1} Trenching of possible earthwork; sketch sections & context notes; limestone rubble including dressed stone & a few bricks; a cut almost parallel to trench & 3m long; rubble yielded 3 sherds post-medieval/modern pottery & piece of slate & 1 flint; unstratified finds included 11 sherds post-medieval pottery & 6 sherds medieval pottery & 1 fragment of clay pipe;

{2} Cut feature probably one of buildings standing on site until recently; <S.Kidd>; owners unaware of any such buildings; one of owners saw wall foundation of stones when trench first cut; apparently disappeared shortly afterwards & trench may have been re-cut;

{3} Cut feature contained limestone & brick & few sherds of post-medieval pottery; possible building foundation; C20th maps do not show building however;
