Full Description

{1} The mill buildings occupied a loop in old road; they were destroyed during straightening of the modern road. This is probably the site of Kingsthorpe Nether Mill which may be of medieval or earlier origin.

{2} Nether Mill was demolished in the early C20th.

{3} Wannings Mill on map.

{4} In late C19th miller was Thomas Moss. He was a popular figure in Kingsthorpe and the mill became known as Moss Mill.

{5} Mentions three watermills at Kingsthorpe, valued at 43s.4d.

{6} One of three mills known previously as Nether Mill and now called Kingsthorpe Mill.

{7} 1086 One of the three Kingsthorpe Mills recorded at the Domesday Survey.
1777 William Manning, miller.
1814 Richad, miller & baker, insured his stock-in-trade in his watermill, with standing and going gearing and machinery and fixtures in same for £280.
1855 Notice of sale of property of Mr Stephen Manning, farmer and miller, deceased, included property in Kingsthorpe but no mention of the mill itself.
1898 Last directory reference to a miller here, Mrs Eliza Moss, using water power.

Site covered by embankment for road from Kingsthorpe to King's Heath.
