Monument record 4140/3/1 - Possible medieval rabbit warren

Pillow mound close to Gretton Manor site. A rectangular ditched mound.

{1} A small rectangular flat-topped pillow mound surrounded by a shallow ditch. The mound is in fact level with the surrounding land and only the ditch, 0.25m deep, defines it. The spoil from the ditch appears to have been thrown outwards to form a slight external bank.

{2} Noted during Field investigation; a series of earthworks centred at SP.899945 and comprising in part 4 ditched mounds, one rectangular the remainder circular. All as surveyed.

{3} The RCHM Inventory interprets the rectangular mound as a pillow mound.
