Full Description

{1} Friary was situated near top of Newland and had a postern gate leading into White Friars' Lane (now known as Wood Street).

{2} Description of land-holding by Henry de Isham "….qe va hors de Abynton strete vers la Eglise de Seint Michel et boute sur la porte des Freres de Karme….".

{3} Described elsewhere as 'postern', Speed appears to indicate gatehouse-like structure.

{4} Gate can be seen on Speed's map of 1610.

{5} The gate house of the friary can be locatred quite low down on Whitefriars (now Wood Lane) indicating that the site of the friary was to the east of the greyfriars and not to the north of it
