Full Description

{1}Brick-lined well 0.5 feet in diameter situated at north end of wood on highest ground. Bricks of a type and appearance common in the area since mid 19th century. Mill exists in isolation - no buildings / structures found in surrounding area. Oral report by a retired gamekeeper for the estate surrounding the woodland claims well was sunk in 1920-21 to provide water for the steam locomotive that transported timber from the wood to the roadside. The well may also have been used for timber "pickling". A 3ft high mound to the north of the well is presumbaly the spoil from the sinking of the well or a later refurbishment.
