Full Description

{1} Groups of pits probably indicate quarrying; pits close to plots are possibly medieval quarrying for "red loam"; pits closer to the stream which overly ridge and furrow probably later quarrying for gravel.

{2} Medieval settlement excavation by S. Parry.

{3} At the rear of several plots small groups of large pits may denote quarrying of the underlying 'red loam' in the late medieval period. More extensive quarrying, possibly for grave, had caused the irregular hollows and mounds adjacent to the stream. As the earthworks appear to cut the ridge and furrow the activity may be of a late date.
