Full Description
{1} Early Roman well - 1.5m deep constructed with roughly dressed limestone blocks - formed a circular shaft which tapered from 0.85m-0.8m across. Well contained a group of lower Nene valley greyware vessels (including one with an unusual spiral and roultted decoration and a stamp of vediacus impressed on a mortarium rim), a shelleyware necked jar of second century date, a complete circular limestone column, an almost complete tegular and imbrex, two fragments of a large glass bowl and a piece of window glass.
{2} An early Roman well was fully excavated. It was 1.5m deep and had been constructed of roughly dressed limestone blocks to form a circular shaft which tapered from 0.85m to 0.8m across. It contained a group op lower Nene valley greyware vessels, a shelly ware necked jar of early-mid C2nd date and a stamp of the potter Vediacus (AD 140-180) was impressed on a mortarium rim. Other find included two fragments of a large glass bowl, together with a circular limestone column with a maximum diameter of 200mm, an almost complete tegula and imbrex, and a piece of window glass which indicate the presence of a nearby building.
