Full Description

{1} Surface scatter of pottery. 110 sherds found during fieldwalking, denoting possible Roman settlement. A high-level domestic occupation is indicated by high proportion of colour-coated ware, low level of grogged ware and no shellyware. Possibly second century occupation. Isolated ditches noted in cropmark may relate to the settlement.

{2} 110 sherds of the assemblage has a number of interesting aspects. There is almost no shelly ware, the proportion of colour-coated ware is very high (48%), and the level of grogged ware is low (11%), with none of the hard grogged variety.A high level domestic occupation is indicated. This possibly did not start until the second century AD, with the grogged wares relating to a separate earlier occupation.
