Full Description

{1} Excavation for gravel took place in 1881 at Houghton Road end & in 1904 more extensive quarrying took place; previous finds included a mammoth tooth & several coins; T. J. George uncovered imperfect remains of 5 tusks & 9 teeth & 2 fragments of limb bones probably all of mammoth; remains were found 5-6ft above water line.
