Full Description
{2} At the beginning of the 20th century this area was part of the grounds of Weston Favell House, built in 1900 by James Manfield. The lake and ponds were created at that time. The lake was stocked with fish and the ponds were part of ornamental gardens occasionally opened to the public. The house and gardens were spearated from the parkland by a ha-ha. The ha-ha also enclosed the 'Bull Ring' comprising 26 lime trees surrounding a statue of a man with a wild boar. Thought eh statue was added by James Manfield, the tree ring was described in the 1924 sale catalogue as over 200 years old. Some lots, including the house, remained unsold after two separate auctions, so Manfield donated it to become a home for crippled children.
When the estate was broken up the area of what is includes Eastfield Park was acquired by Major Arthur Ray who built Eastfield House in 1924. The land was acquired in 1950 by Northampton Borough Council who built the Eastfield Estate on part of it. The park was created out the remaining undeveloped land.
