Monument record 7060 - Black Hedges

The remains of a possible farm were identified in a field formerly known as Black Hedges. A small group of buildings is depicted in this location on the early 19th-century Ordnance Survey drawings. It was surrounded by an aera of woodland known as Black Hedges. By the late 19th century, the woodland had gone and the group of buidlings is known as Black Hedges. The buildings appear to have been demolished at some point after 1970.

{1} Building remains - possibly a former farmhouse and associated barns. Some traces of drystone walls, brick foundations and earthworks.

{2} A small group of buildings is depicted in this location on the early 19th-century map. The buildings are located on the western edge of an area of woodland known as Black Hedges.

{3} The woodland has disappeared by the later 19th-century. The buidlings associated with Black Hedges appear to be situated around at least two courtyards and probably comprise a farmhouse and a series of farm buildings.

{4} By the later 20th century, only an L-shaped range of buildings survives.
