Full Description
{1} Large barn, converted to domestic use in late 1980's or early 1990's. When west end gable wall was demolished to be rebuilt several stone mullions were found to have been reused in the construction; these have now been built into fireplace in the main room. A stone with the date 1784 was found on the inside south wall. The kneelers of the west end gable are of dressed stone of good quality. There is also some dressed stone (a possible lintel) on the ground behind the building which is perhaps medieval in appearance. The north wall, the sole survivor of the outbuilding to the east of the main barn has some openings about 100mm diam about 2.5m above ground. These are surrounded with 14 brick segments set within the stone wall.
{2} Built after 1779. The datestone 1784 is probably accurate. It was occupied as a house (not a barn only) until 1934, after which it was a piggery. It is possible the reused stone mullions came from the medieval buildings at Muscott.
