Full Description
{1} Memorial located on old runway off Hemington Road.
{2} The memorial is located at the extreme eastern end of the airfield's main runway. A small part of the runway surface around the monument still survives.
{4} Dedicated 18th June 1981. Made by Richard Morris of the Granite and Marble Company of Denbigh, Wales. The memorial stands at the west end of a large concrete area that is surrounded by some of the 351 poplar trees that were planted to reflect that the airfield was the base of the 351st Bombardment group. The main memorial is a rectangular plinth surmounted by a triangular stone. The east and west faces bear etched inscriptions and a smaller tablet, set into the ground to the east, bears the name of the airfield. The memorial sits withina gravelled square and at each corner is a small tablet commemorating the sour successive Commanding officers of 351st from 1942 to 1945. Granite benches, bearing inscriptions to two Commanding Officers, are set outside the gravelled square, either side of the memorial. A glazed cabinet containing a visitors' book stands nearby.
